Meet Katie

Katie Hermosilla is a senior digital and mission transformation leader in Booz Allen’s federal civilian business. She has more than 25 years of experience supporting programmatic and technology transformation at civilian agencies. She applies her expertise in digital transformation strategy development, software development and implementation, and organizational change management to help federal agency clients more effectively deliver digital products and services to citizens and other stakeholders.

Katie began her career at the Defense Information Systems Agency in a career mobility program focused on hiring professionals with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) degrees to address the Department of Defense’s technology and information management challenges. She then joined the consulting division of an accounting firm, where she provided mission improvement solutions to federal agencies charged with implementing large grant programs. 

Katie holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from Penn State University and an M.S. in systems engineering from George Mason University.

What makes you excited to come to work every day? Since my first day at Booz Allen, the power of our collective ingenuity has inspired me to do everything possible to help our clients execute their missions. On that day, I walked into a meeting with colleagues who were experts in federal program design, grants management, and telecommunications and broadband networks. Several months later, we started our work to help the government expand national access to broadband. We brought together expertise from across the firm to do something great with our client—and I’ve seen that same scenario play out many times since. 

Why are you passionate about your field? I’m passionate about digital transformation because we’re in an age where access to government services must change to meet the demands of a digital-first population. This new generation of citizens has no interest in interacting with the government by phone, through the mail, or in person. In the next 20 years, taxpayers will insist on secure, streamlined tax filing, complete transparency into transaction-related data, and year-round access to all necessary services and requirements through a mobile device. 

How does your work change the world?  When we’re working to enable mission delivery through new technologies, not only are we freeing our civilian clients from the decades-old technical debt of legacy systems, we’re helping them deliver their services to the American public in ways that address new and critically important initiatives—such as assuring that equity in service delivery is designed in from the start, building confidence and trust in the government decision making through data transparency and access.

How do you inspire your teams to do excellent work? How do your teams inspire you? Being a great consultant is about leveraging your talents and knowledge as well as those of the people around you. Excellence results when we incorporate the richness of several perspectives, knowledge sets, and approaches. I give the teams I work with explicit permission to ask questions that have gone unasked, explore alternatives, and propose recommendations that will truly improve mission accomplishment.
